The Wayland High School Math Department strives to prepare our students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. We offer a breadth of math and computer science classes that foster this growth in our students.  Central to our goals is a challenging, accessible and equitable education for each of the students in our community.

Math Team:

Wayland High School offers the opportunity for students to expand their math knowledge and problem solving skills via the Math Team.  The WHS Math Team meets on Thursdays after school under the guidance of Math teacher, Hannah Marton.  Any student interested in participating should reach out to Ms. Marton.

School Supplies:

All students enrolled in Algebra 2 and above are expected to have a graphing calculator.  We recommend a TI-83 or TI-84 models (regular, +, CE are all fine).  Please know that a higher number does not necessarily mean a better calculator.  If you are buying a new calculator for your student, please ask them to stop by the math office to have it engraved.  If you are concerned about you or your student getting access to a graphing calculator, please reach out to the Department Head, Shanley Heller.

Most teachers prefer a 3-ring binder for students to keep hand outs and papers in one place.  Some spiral bound notebooks contain graph paper which can be helpful.  Whatever system works best for you is the best choice.  Teachers will give specific requests at the beginning of the year.
