Studio Assistantship Program
Hello,

The Danforth Art School at Framingham State University is preparing for our popular Summer Arts Program 2020 for children in grades K-12. Aside from our great teachers, carefully designed curriculum, and eager and talented students, part of what makes it successful is our team of highly valued high school/college-aged Studio Assistants who help in all aspects of running the school.

Our Studio Assistantship Program is designed to expose high school students to the administrative functions and educational practices of a visual arts school. In their role as Studio Assistants, participants contribute to the efficiency of school operations by assisting instructors with all aspects of teaching and creating, including material prep, classroom management, and working with students. Assistants act as leaders and role models by providing positive experiences to Danforth students. They aide a variety of classes, which affords them the experience of differentiated lesson planning and teaching methods, and working with individual children allows them to see student learning at different developmental levels.
Studio Assistants are volunteers who in return for their service receive valuable mentorship, applicable volunteer hour credits, lots of work experience to put on their resumes/ transcripts and an official Danforth letter outlining their contributions to the program. Upon request, they are also eligible to receive references for jobs or schools.
We are hoping you have students who would be interested in the experience of being a Studio Assistant for our upcoming Summer Arts, and potentially for our Vacation Week Workshops throughout the year. It may be someone who loves art (preferred though not required), someone interested in education, or who is in need of the leadership and work experience on his or her resume.
We are currently accepting applications from enthusiastic, responsible candidates who are available full days from 8:15 am-4:15 pm, Monday-Friday, for at least 4 of the 9 weeks of our Summer Arts program. Weeks do not need to be consecutive. All accepted Studio Assistants must attend a no-cost 5-week training class which will be held during the spring session at Danforth Art School from 12-2 on Saturdays from May 2nd to June 5th (not including Memorial Day Weekend).

Interested students should fill out the attached application form carefully. This application can also be found on our website danforth.framingham.edu on the Teen Summer Arts page. The first page of the application has more detailed info and directions on where to email or mail the completed application. Once it has been reviewed the applicant will be contacted to schedule an interview here at Danforth, at a time that is mutually agreed upon. The application deadline is March 30th, however, we will stop accepting applications when all positions are filled (on average about 20 assistants) so the earlier they send it in the better!

For those that are interested, Danforth also offers Teen Summer classes which will include two fashion courses, Portfolio Development courses, Portrait/ Figure studies, and more. More information about our Summer Arts Program K-8 can be found here. And more info about the Teen Summer Arts classes is linked here.

Thank you for taking the time to consider who in your school may benefit from this experience at Danforth. Our young assistants are a huge part of what makes Summer Arts a fun and excellent place to learn. Thank you for forwarding this to others who you feel may be interested in participating. For questions please do not hesitate to contact me on my telephone and email below.

Thank you and Best Regards,
